THE SGT. ROBERTO & MARIA CRUZ SCHOLARSHIP
The Puerto Rican Cultural Society of Charlotte (PRCSC) is committed to supporting the educational advancement of Puerto Rican youth. The purpose of the Thomas Luciano Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Sgt. Roberto & Maria Cruz Scholarship, are to provide scholarships to deserving, qualified high school graduating seniors intending to pursue a course of study at either a two-year or four-year higher educational institution. For 2018 the TLMSF will award two (2) scholarships in the amount of $1,000 per award and for 2018, SGTRMC will award one (1) scholarship in the amount of $500 per award. Scholarship funds will be awarded to the student(s) upon evidence of registration and acceptance in an accredited higher educational institution.
Criteria and eligibility (Thomas Luciano Memorial Scholarship Fund)
Applicant must be of Puerto Rican descent – first, second, or third generation.
Applicant must be a current resident of Cabarrus, Gaston, Mecklenburg, South Iredell, or Union County.
Applicant must be a graduating high school senior in the year of the award.
Applicant must have a 3.0 grade point average (B average or higher).
Applicant must demonstrate public service / past or present community involvement.
Applicant must submit an essay with PRCSC specific topics.
Applicants may not be related to any Board of Directors or Executive Committee.
Deadline for scholarship application is May 31, 2018, 5p.m. EST.
Incomplete, illegible or late applications will not be considered.

Completely fill out the two-page application form.
Include a one page biography with a brief description of yourself, your college plans, intended major, ROTC, community service, student-faculty committees, advocacy activities, work with religious organizations etc.
An official and most recent high school transcript with cumulative grade point average and class standing/rank. Essay – Essay must be at least two pages (typed, doubled spaced, times new roman font, 12 pt.).
Two (2) letters of recommendation from choice of teachers, administrators, Clergy, counselors, current or previous employers, or individuals with significant personal knowledge of applicant.
